The email sent to journal editors on January 18, 2024, is provided below.
Dear Editor,
A new issue creation feature has been developed in DergiPark. When creating an issue, three options will be presented as "Supplement Issue", "Issue", and "Special Issue". While the Supplement Issue and Issue process has not been changed, the Special Issue process has been changed. From now on, journals that decide to publish a special issue will create their issue and determine the theme for this issue before receiving article submissions. The title to be entered in the issue information will be presented to the authors on the “Journal Wizard” page according to the label and subject.
To publish a Special Issue:
Log in to the system with the Editor role. Navigate to MENU >> Issues and Articles >> Issues.
When proceeding with the Create Special Issue option, you will see a field for selecting the period. This is not a mandatory field. However, at the end of the year, the number of published issues will be calculated and compared with the journal’s declared period.
The issue must be created according to the current year. Frequency selection should not be made for previous years. If a special issue is to be published retrospectively, the Archive Upload option must be used.
Enter the year of the issue, its display mode, and accordingly, the volume and issue number. Text format can be used in the issue number field.
You may enter up to 20 tags, and each tag must be between 2 and 20 characters in length. These tags will be matched with keywords on the Journal Wizard page and will be included in searches. Your Special Issue announcement will appear in the search results on the Journal Wizard page.
When creating a special issue, a notification will be sent to users who follow the selected topics and/or your journal, informing them that a Special Issue will be published.
The submission deadline will take effect as of today's date.
The cover image field is optional. If you have a cover image for your issue, you may upload it. Then, save your issue. This will create an empty Special Issue.
After creating the Special Issue, the article submission page will display a submission option for this issue. Authors may choose to submit their articles specifically to the Special Issue.
The Special Issue submission option will remain visible until the specified submission deadline.
Articles submitted to the Special Issue will be linked to that issue. These links may be removed by the editorial team if needed.
You can postpone the deadline for the Special Issue on the Edit page. After making this change, a notification will be sent to users informing them that the deadline has been extended.
You may also bring the announcement date forward.
By clicking the three dots next to the Special Issue, you can select "Articles in Special Issue" to view article details and proceed with the editorial workflow.
When the Special Issue is marked as Published, any ongoing articles linked to it will be disassociated from the issue. Once the editorial process for these articles is completed, they can be reassigned to another issue.
Note: Special issues cannot be created outside of this method. Articles collected for a special issue can be added to the period number, but a special issue cannot be converted to a period number.
