Abstract

Cosmetic products, which hold animportant place in human life, are products that do not have to be sterile interms of microbiology. However, these products can be contaminated withmicroorganisms due to various reasons. For this reason, the microbiologicalsuitability of cosmetic products is very important for consumer health. In thisstudy, the suitability of hand and facial creams used for cosmetic purposes, whichare not opened at all, and belonging to different firms, to microbiologicalcriteria have been investigated. For this purpose, a total of 30 cream creamsincluding 24 hand creams and 6 hand and face creams were used. The number oftotal microorganisms in creams was determined by classical counting method, andselective media were sown. Accordingly, it has been determined that 3 of the 30cream samples contain more than 1000 microorganisms, which is the permittedvalue in the cosmetic regulation. There have also been no cases of the presenceof pathogenic microorganisms such as Escherichiacoli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans, which are not desiredto be present in cosmetics at all. However, there were many microorganisms withor without various pathogens in 16 of the 24 handcreams and 5 of the 6 handsand facecreams. It has also been observed that some of the creams may containmany pathogenic and opportunistic pathogenic microorganisms. For this reason,it is suggested to manufacture in facilities suitable for good manufacturingconditions in order to prevent contamination in unused products, to protectconsumer's health, to increase product quality and reliability inmicrobiological terms. In addition, from the point of view of public health, inspections of these products and microbial risk analyzes should be doneabsolutely.
